HEIRLOOM. Allium schoenoprasum. Chives is a perennial plant that will come back every year in zones 3-10. Chives are ready to harvest 60 days after seed germination. Cut the leaves 1 to 2 inches from the soil with scissors. You can get 3 to 4 harvests the first year.  Flowers will come on in late Spring or early Summer and are edible. Thrives in any soil.
